October 22, 1916 ---- May 4, 1995

Clair W. Baker, 78, of Sun City West, Ariz., who formerly farmed in the Grinnell area, died Thursday, May 4, at his home. Private funeral services were held. Memorial contributions in Mr. Baker's name may be made to the American Heart Association.

He was the son of Glenn and Hulda Baker and was born Oct. 22, 1916, in Belmond. He attended rural schools and Belmond High School. He was a 1940 graduate of Iowa State University. He was married to Alice Bailey in 1940. Mr. Baker taught vocational agriculture and served as county Extension director in Keokuk County. He also worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Oklahoma, farmed in central Iowa for 17 years and worked with the Adult Education Department at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs. He was a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau, Bethel Methodist Church, Bethel Grange and Sun City West Prides. He retired in 1981 and lived in Harwich Port and Plymouth, Mass., before moving to Sun City West in 1987.

Surviving are his wife, Alice; two daughters, Sondra Lage of Norwell, Mass., and Francene Uralman of Redondo Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Lou Tice of Mesa, Ariz., and Jean Ann Greenwood of Belmond; two brothers, John of Spencer and G. J. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one grandson.
