Former Resident Buried Monday

Emma Edith was born to John and Suzanne Rowley May 3, 1886, at Rowan and passed away at her home in LaPorte City April 3, 1953, at the age of 66 years and 11 months. She was united in marriage to Harold Steffens Feb. 11, 1906, at Rowan and lived in that community the early part of their married life moving to LaPorte City 23 years ago. Mrs. Steffens was a faithful member of the Evangelical church, taking an active part in Sunday School, Ladies Aid and missionary society. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband; two sons, Lynn at home, Royce at Aurelia; five daughters, Mrs. Ruby Santer, Aurelia; Mrs. Irene Norris, Des Moines; Mrs. Burnetta Reiter. Waterloo; Mrs. Lea Galloway, Coggan, and Mrs. Eva Monteith, LaPorte City. Last rites were held in the church in LaPorte City and the remains brought to Rowan for burial at Graceland cemetery Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Lindsey, Mrs. Earl Bailey and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gram went to LaPorte City Monday forenoon to attend the funeral service for Mrs Harold Steffens. She was brought to the Rowan cemetery for burial Monday at 3 p. m. with a graveside service with Rev. Harold A. Sanders conducting the service. Alter the service a group of relatives went to the Clarence Lindsey home for a short visit and lunch was served by Mrs. Laurence Retleff and Mrs. E. B. Albro. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Norris of Des Moines, and Mrs. Raymond Reiter of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Galloway, Coggan, Mr and Mrs Evan Santer, Mr and Mrs. Homer Bailey, Mr. and Mrs. Royce Steffens. all of Aurelia, Harold Steffens, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Monteith and Lynn Steffens of LaPorte City, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Steffens. Miss Nora Shafer, Mrs. Earl Bailey and Mary Lou and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gram, Elaine and Sally.
