Margaret A. Ellis, age 77, of Dows, passed away Saturday April 5, 2014 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital of Belmond. Funeral services for Margaret A. Ellis will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday April 10, 2014 at the United Presbyterian Church in Dows. Pastor Ron Lotz of the Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation for Margaret A. Ellis will begin for friends at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday April 9, 2014 at the United Presbyterian church in Dows and will continue for an hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Dugger Funeral Home, 100 North Lee Street in Dows is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Ann, the daughter of Kenneth and Lenore (Johnson) Blackford was born November 12, 1936 in Des Moines. The family moved to the Dows in 1941, where she attended country school. She graduated from Dows High School in 1954. She worked for a printer in Dows after graduation. Margaret met Donald Ellis and they were married March 9, 1958. The couple were blessed with two sons Kevin and Brian. They made their home east of Dows, moved into Dows for a short time and settled on an acreage west of Dows, where she was living when she passed away.

Margaret was a secretary for Weber Insurance in Dows, she also worked as a Deputy at the Wright County Treasurers Office from 1989 to 2000 when she retired. She had a huge garden, mostly flowers. She loved gardening, sewing, and flowers. Margaret was a great cook. She was the best at preserving certificates and special records for posterity for her grandchildren. Margaret and Don enjoyed spending winters in Texas for numerous years.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Don, two sons Kevin (Sherrie), Brian (Betty), all of Dows, five grandchildren, Kenley (Pete), Keldon, Korey, Breanna, Clay, great grandson, Dake, brother, Richard Blackford of Dows and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
