June 22, 1869 --- May 22, 1906

[served Congregational church in Galt and Rowan, Wright County, Iowa in 1890]

The remains of Rev. Frank Hoover, whose death was briefly mentioned in the Quasquetonian last week, were buried in Greenwood cemetery Saturday morning. The funeral services were conducted in the Presbyterian church at Walker by Rev. L.C. Cooley. A brief service was held at the cemetery and the casket opened to permit friends here to view the remains. The account given last week was taken from a Chicago daily newspaper and it contained a suggestion that Rev. Hoover had been the victim of foul play. Later developments would indicate that there is no foundation for the belief and the circumstances all point to a accidental drowning. His clothing, gold watch, wallet and a bath towel were found on the shore of the lake in which the body was found, and there were no marks on his person that would indicate an act of violence. Rev. Hoover was reared in Newton township and was about 35 years of age. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoover who now reside in Walker. He had been in the ministry for a number of years the greater part of the time serving as state evangelist for the Congregational church in Illinois. His home was at Peoria, Illinois, but at the time of his death he was holding meetings in Sherrard.

He leaves a wife and two daughters besides a mother and father, a brother, Arthur Levi Hoover of Colorado, and a sister, Mrs. Flora (Richard Charles Smith), of Troy Mills. The death of Rev. Hoover recalls the accidental drowning several years ago of his brother, Jesse Brockway Hoover, who with some other lads was bathing in the Wapsi a short distance south of town.

Wedding of Hoover-Jamison~Last Thursday, June 29, 1892, at 10:30 a.m., at the residence of the bride's sister, Mrs. W. F. Shafer, of Chilicothe, Missouri. Frank Wayne Hoover of Quasqueton, Iowa and Miss Gertrude E. Jamison of Dayton, Pennsylvania, were united in marriage, Rev. B. C. Tillitt of Boone, Iowa performing the ceremony, in the presence of the relatives, and a few intimate friends of the contracting parties. On all sides are, heard hearty expressions of good will, and best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of the parties thus taking upon themselves the responsibilities of wedded life. The groom is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoover, and is well and favorably known here. Two years ago last fall he went to Grinnell, and attended the school there for four terms. During the summer vacation, 1890, he accepted the pastorate of the Congregational Church at Galt and Rowan, Iowa, where his work was very successful. Returning from Grinnell in December, 1890, he at once took charge of the Newtonville and Middlefield Union churches, where he again met with great success. Last September he became a student of Moody's Bible School in Chicago, where he remained until March 1st, when he accepted the pastorate of the Congregational churches at Moorland and Callender, Iowa, for one year. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Jamison of Dayton, Pennsylvania. Although a stranger in this community, from what we learn of her true womanly worth, we are led to believe that good wishes are seldom more worthily bestowed. Mr. and Mrs. Hoover took the 1:10 train Thursday P.M., arriving at Morland on Friday.
