LaVerna Hannum, age 101, of 1003 Meridian Street, [Boone, Iowa] passed away March 22, 2014, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Christian Church with Rev. Gary Sneller officiating. Burial will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport. LaVerna Hannum was born on the family farm near Eagle Grove, Iowa, on April 11, 1912, the daughter of Jesse and Josephine (Carroll) Moon. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1931. LaVerna was united in marriage to Raymond Hannum on February 19, 1943, at Bethany, Missouri. The couple enjoyed fishing and hunting trips together and were very happy to share their stories and photos. In addition to being a house wife, LaVerna worked over 11 years as a saleswoman at the former Bowman’s Shoes in Boone and also worked over 11 years at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in the homemaking department and as a nurse’s aide. She loved to dine out, play cards, cook, feed and watch birds, and cook. LaVerna was very independent and very proud to live in her home for almost 70 years before entering the Eastern Star Home this past December.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Marie Moon of Eagle Grove, and a sister and brother-in-law Alice and Silas Tungesvik of Radcliffe. LaVerna is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Wednesday from 2 until 7 p.m. where the family will be present from 5 until 7 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. In memory of LaVerna, memorials may be directed to the Central Christian Church or the Boone Area Humane Society.
