March 26, 1847 --- December 10, 1896

Ben Ersland whom all knew so well died suddenly on Thursday of last week after a week's illness with pneumonia, contracted while teaming on the road in bad weather. He had complained of unsatisfactory health all summer. Mrs. Ersland is also in a very precarious state of health and confined to a sick bed. The children also are in trouble, nearly all of a large family having the whooping cough.

HARDY, Dec. 15. — Benjamin Ersland, one of Lake township's respected citizens, was buried Monday afternoon. A large concourse followed the remains to its last resting place. Mr. Ersland leaves a wife and five children.

Died at his home in Lake township at 6 o'clock Thursday morning, Dec. 10, Barney Ersland from lung fever. Mr. Ersland was born in Norway, in 1847, where he lived until 1870. He then came to Polk county, Iowa, and settled down on the farm. In 1880 he came to Humboldt county and bought the farm where He has since resided, In 1887 he married Miss Mary Michaelson, He was a man of the strongest convictions and well liked by all. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his death.

Ben B. Ersland was born in Skjold, Norway March 19, 1874 and died at his home north west from Thor, in Humboldt county Dec. 10, 1896; ...Deceased immigrated to America when he was a young man, and for many years he made his home south east of Slater.
