Richard M. McWilliams, age 89, 600 So. 24th, Quincy, died Monday, August 2, 2004 at 1:50 pm in Blessing Hospital. He was born March 11, 1915 in Lehigh, Iowa, the son of George W. McWilliams and Blanche E. Daniels McWilliams. On September 14, 1940, he married Margaret Jeffries in Corvallis, Oregon. She survives. Mr. McWilliams attended Webster Township Country School and was a graduate of Lehigh High School in 1933. He was a member of Webster County, Iowa 4-H Club raising and showing hogs, beef cattle and horses at the County Fair. He also showed Belgian horses at Waterloo Congress Fair at Waterloo, IA and Iowa State Fair at Des Moines. He earned a B.S. Degree in Animal Science in 1938 from Iowa State and in 1950 he earned his Masters Degree in Animal Nutrition and Production Economics from Iowa State. He was a member of the Iowa State baseball Team in 1936, 1937 and 1938. He turned down offers to play professional baseball. He was a former Iowa State staff member. At Iowa State, he was a member of Alpha Zeta honorary Agriculture Fraternity, the Gamma Sigma Delta Fraternity, ISU Block and Bridle Club, Farm House Fraternity. He was also on livestock and dairy judging teams. After receiving his B.S. degree, he was assistant County Agent in Hamilton Co., Webster City and Wright Co., Clarion, IA from 1938 to 1941. He was County Extension Director of Clayton County, Elkader, IA from 1941 to 1946. Then in 1946 he became a member of Extension Animal Science at Iowa State, Ames, IA from 1946 to 1957. On July 1, 1957, he began with Moorman Mfg. Co. in Quincy as Beef Cattle Specialist in the Service Dept. He was Assistant Manager, then Manager of what was later known as the Nutritional Counseling Department. In 1969 he became Manager of Guest Relations and Tours Dept. until his retirement on March 31, 1978.

Professional memberships include member and chairman of the Extension Section of American Society of Animal Science, adviser for National Grub Control Committee of Livestock Conservation, director and recipient of meritorious Service Award from Livestock Conservation, Inc. He has been active with Boy Scouts, FFA and 4-H Clubs. He was an active member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Elkader, Iowa. His part time interests include golf, photography, woodworking and reading.

Survivors in addition to his wife are 3 sons, Richard H. McWilliams & his wife Julie, Boone, IA, Paul McWilliams, and his wife Jaci, Racine, WI, James McWilliams and his wife Sharon, Herndon, VA, 2 daughters, Catherine Campagna and her husband Tom, Alexandria, VA, Margaret Ann Moorman & her husband James, Schaumburg, IL, 11 grandchildren, Sara York and her husband Kyle, Annapolis, MD; Kamala Hartig and her husband Russ, Arlington Hts., Amanda McWilliams, Phoenix, AZ, Ashley McWilliams, W. DesMoines, IA; John Richard McWilliams, Duluth, MN; Patrick McWilliams, Herndon, VA, Deborah Hewitt and her husband Scott, Galesville, MD; Richard Campagna and his wife Judy, Alexandria, VA, Michael Campagna, Alexandria, VA; Aaron Moorman and his wife Kim, Schaumburg; Elizabeth Moorman, Schaumburg; sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles (Bernadeen) McWilliams, LeMars, IA. 5 great grandchildren, Alan M. York, Annapolis, MD: Richard E. York, Annapolis, MD; Nicole Hewitt and Griffin Hewitt, Galesville, MD, and Glenn Thomas Campagna, Alexandria, VA. He was preceded in death by parents, 2 sisters Mary Evelyn and Maxine Bethel and brother Charles McWilliams and a brother-in-law William Bethel.

Memorial services for Richard McWilliams will be Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Quincy. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or the Y.W.C.A.
