March 21, 1881 --- May 9, 1941

Carl John "C. J." Kirk, 60, well known LaBelle realtor, died suddenly Friday morning at his home here after suffering a heart attack a few hours earlier. His wife, Mrs. Myra Kirk, was with him at the end, having arrived home 30 minutes before he passed away from an over night visit with her parents in Arcadia. Mr. Kirk carried on a cheerful conversation with her while she administered treatment to him finally announcing he wanted to go to sleep. That was the end.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at Roberts Funeral Home in Arcadia, the Rev. A. M. Glisson officiating. Members of the choir of the First Baptist Church accompanied Rev. Glisson to Arcadia. They sang 'Just When I Meet Him,' and 'Does Jesus Care,' Mrs. Dennis Small playing softly the accompaniment on the piano. A large number of friends and business acquaintances from towns in southwest Florida attended the services.

Only a few words were spoken at the graveside in Oakridge cemetery. Pallbearers were Harry Fagan and W. H. Reynolds of Fort Myers; Cary Carlton and Horace Carlton of Arcadia, and A. A. Harrington and R. E. Burchard of LaBelle.

Mr. Kirk was born in Iowa, and the family moved to Canada while he was a small boy. It was there he grew to manhood and afterwards became a Canadian citizen. He left Canada during Florida boom days arriving at LaBelle in 1925. He opened a real estate office, for many years past the only business of its kind in western Hendry County. After living here 15 years he applied for and recently, two months ago, was restored to American citizenship. He was local representative for the Consolidated Land Company and the Florida Land and Timber Company, as well as smaller land companies and individual owners. During his business experience here he handled the sale in some of the largest land transactions in this section of the state, especially cattle pasture lands. Though in ill health for more than a year he carried on his business activities until the end.

Survivors are, besides his widow, one brother, John Kirk of San Diego, Cal., and three sisters, Mrs. H. C. Olson and Mrs. Mary Prehm of Bode, Ia. and Mrs. Anna Cox of Denver, Col....
