October 13, 1865 --- October 20, 1965

Joren, Mrs. Knute, Kirkeberg was born Oct. 13, 1865 at Hardanger, Norway, the daughter of Anfin and Martha Berven. At the age of approximately 20 years she came to America with a girl friend and for a while lived with Mr. and Mrs. Lars Sheldos in the Thor area and later worked in a home in Humboldt. Later she was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Mikkel Kirkeberg on a farm near Thor and on June 3rd, 1888 married their son, Knute who was also farming in that area. Their marriage was solemnized in the Lutheran Synod Church at Thor. They farmed in the Thor area until 1919 when they retired and moved to Eagle Grove. On Oct. 13 she observed her 100th birthday, then on Wednesday, Oct. 20 she died in her home. She was associated with the Samuel Lutheran church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Anfin and Martha Berven, twin daughters who died in infancy and by her husband, Knute Kirkeberg who died in 1934. She is survived by three daughters: Amanda (Mrs. Carl Geis) of Eagle Grove, Mabel (Mrs. Chris Mickelson) of Thor, Clara (Mrs. Donald Parker) of Sierra Madre, Calif. and one son Alf Kirkberg of Stanton. Also by 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kastler Funeral Home with Pastor Jordan Jacobsen, officiating. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery of Eagle Grove.
