R. Boyd Jenison, 84, peacefully passed away on January 22, 2014, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston. Memorial services will be held 9:30 a.m. January 28, at Our Lady of Peace Chapel at Bishop Drumm. Private inurnment of the cremated remains will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Boyd was born in Belmond, Iowa on February 13th, 1929, to G. Leroy and Grace (Wilcox) Jenison. He grew up on the family farm in Belmond. Upon graduation from high school, Boyd headed to New York City to attend college, and then traveled to Spain, to meet up with his sister and niece who resided there. He later moved back to the Des Moines area where he worked for the Riverside YMCA, as well as the Principal Financial Group in their security division. Boyd was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Boyd was an easy going person who enjoyed good conversation, a good meal, and a good glass of red wine. He was a happy person who was easy to get to know, and made many good friends at the Frank Smith Retirement Center in Beaverdale, where he previously lived.

Boyd is survived by a brother, Daryl Jenison, of Des Moines and his sister-in-law Hazel Jenison of Austin, Texas, as well as several nieces and nephews. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and a sister. Contributions can be made to a Catholic Charity or DMARC Food Pantry in Des Moines.
