Agnes Veronica Johnson

Agnes passed away peacefully in her home on January 14, 2014. She was born in Clarion, Iowa, on February 24, 1917. She lived her early and teenage years in Chicago and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. She married Clarence M. Johnson in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on October 9, 1937. Their sons, Richard and Ronald, were born in Cedar Rapids. After World War II, the family moved to Seattle where their daughter, Lori, was born. Lori lovingly cared for her mother in her final years. In her youth, Agnes witnessed the aftermath of World War I, she weathered the Great Depression of the 1930’s, and she planted Victory gardens during World War II. Her career involved homemaking and raising her family. She also worked for the Seattle Archdiocese as a teacher, CYO administrator, and as a parish secretary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, and her son, Richard. She leaves behind her son, Ronald, of Samish Island and daughter, Lori, of Seattle; grandchildren Lori, Casey, Mark, and Richard Johnson, Mindy Johnson, Amy Yarno, Ashton, Blair, and Taylor Eather. Her great grandchildren Porter, Morgan, Justin, Presley, and Violet will miss her wisdom and kindness. Agnes was dedicated to her family, and she was firm in her Faith. Her sense of humor helped us all survive. May God rest her good soul.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Chapel of St. James Cathedral on Saturday, January 25th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to: Saint James Cathedral Kitchen, 804 9th Avenue, Seattle, Washington, 98104.
