Ireene E. Osterson, 97, of Fort Dodge, passed away Monday January 13, 2014, at the Iowa Specialty Hospital Clarion, in Clarion. Private Graveside services will be held at a later date at Corpus Christi Cemetery. She is survived by her nieces, Carmen Clark of Omaha, NE and Dianne Memler of Napersville, IL. Ireene is preceded in death by her parents, William and Nellie (Dolan) Walsh; husband, George Osterson; son, George W. Osterson; and brothers, William, Edwin, Myron, and Gerald.

Ireene E. Walsh was born July 22, 1916 in Clarion. The family moved to Council Bluffs for a period of time where Ireene was enrolled in the St. Frances Academy. After 6 years the family returned to Clarion. Ireene attended St. John's Catholic School until the 8th grade. She graduated from Clarion High School. After graduation, Ireene attended the Van Sant School of Business in Omaha, NE; due to a family illness she left school after 6 months. She was united in marriage on May 8, 1939 to George Osterson. George enlisted in the U.S. Army at that time and relocated to Fort Belvoir, VA. Ireene moved to Alexandria, VA; and started working as a clerk-typist at the National Headquarters of the American Red Cross. She was then employed with Cameron Quartermaster Corps (U.S. Army) in Cameron, VA. Ireene moved to Michigan where she was employed as a secretary for the Department of Agriculture Soil and Conservation Services in Lansing, MI. After residing in Michigan, she moved to Washington, D.C., where Ireene worked for the Plant Science Division for 8 years. In May of 1974, the Osterson's retired and moved to Fort Dodge where Ireene enjoyed volunteering at Trinity Hospital. The couple later moved to Friendship Haven D-3 Hilltop Road, then The Meadows in Clarion, IA; back to Friendship Haven. She was presently living in Clarion at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center. Ireene was a past member of NARFE and St. John Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, crocheting, golfing, tennis, reading, and visiting with her many friends. Ireene also played the piano and organ. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
