Benjamin W. Hanson, age 34, of Belmond passed away Sunday December 29, 2013 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital of Belmond. Funeral services for Benjamin C. Hanson will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday January 4, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery east of Goodell. Graveside military rites will be provided by the Belmond Honor Guard. Visitation for Benjamin W. Hanson will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Friday January 3, 2014 at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Benjamin Washington, the son of Duane and Cynthia Ann Wiarda Hanson was born April 14, 1979 in Belmond. At an early age, Ben moved with his family to the Des Moines area where he grew up and attended school. While attending Des Moines North High School he was involved with Junior R.O.T.C., was involved in music and played football. Ben graduated from the Des Moines North High School in 1997. Upon his graduation, Ben joined the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy until 2001, when Ben was Honorably Discharged. He returned to Iowa, where he would live and work.

Ben was united in marriage to Danielle Shafer in 2003. Ben and Danielle were blessed with four children, James, 10, Crissy, 9, Neveah, 7, and Jonas, 8 months. Ben worked as various jobs around north central Iowa, and was presently employed with ADS in Eagle Grove. He was a gifted musician, and had the talent of being able to play any instrument. Growing up Ben enjoyed jumping his bicycles, which evolved into his love for motorcycles. Ben had a heart for serving God and shared his faith with everyone he encountered. Ben was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Goodell #420, and Belmond V.F.W. Ben was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Belmond.

Ben is survived by his wife, Danielle, children, James, Crissy, Nevaeh, Jonas, father, Duane (Jean) of Goodell, mother, Cynthia Ann Betts of Des Moines, brothers, Barrin of Clarion, Barrick (Christina) of Arizona, two nephews, Presten and Chase, grandparents, Irv and Lolarae Wiarda of Dows and numerous other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister, Bethany, niece, Haley, and aunt, Janet Lich. DUGGER FUNERAL HOME, 111 LUICK'S LANE SOUTH, BELMOND, IOWA.
