MASON CITY - Norman D. Boelman, 83, of Meservey, died at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013. Memorial services for Norman will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City. The Rev. Rodney Meester will be officiating. Viewing will be one hour prior to services. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Norman Dale was born April 4, 1930, in Meservey, the son of Henry and Jennie (Pals) Boelman. He attended school in Meservey, and lived there his entire life. Norman was a member of First Reformed Church in Meservey. On Dec. 19, 1951, he was united in marriage to Julane Gaffri at Belmond Methodist Church Parsonage; into this union two daughters were born. They would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary the day after he died. Norman was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. After he honorably served his country, he farmed for awhile doing trucking and shelling. Norman served on the volunteer fire department in Meservey for 51 years. From 1967-1987 he drove truck for Ruan until his retirement. After retiring he went back to work for Allbee Construction, and worked for the Leinbach Community Center in Belmond doing grounds keeping.

A time to remember for Julane and Norman is when they took a motorcycle trip to Yellowstone National park in 1988; he belonged to North Iowa Road Riders. Norman could fix anything, and he was the “go to man.” He was also a man that would do anything for anybody. Although he was very quiet, he knew what he wanted in life.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years Julane, daughters Deb Robertson of Clear Lake, and Darla and her husband Raymond Haag of Mason City. His brother Dennis (Miriam) Boelman of Belmond, and sister-in-law Jan Romerreim (Boelman) of Mason City, four grandchildren Jason (Kristin) Robertson, Christopher (Hannah) Robertson, Matthew (Danielle) Haag, and Callie (Adam) Lichman. Also, 8 great-grandchildren, Blaiden, Braelin, Camden, Braden, Devon, Ashlyn, Tanner and Mya. Norman was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Al Boelman.
