EAGLE GROVE - Carroll Everett Spangler, the son of Arthur M. and Clara (Tuttle) Spangler, was born March 3, 1918, in Dayton Township near Eagle Grove. He was educated in rural schools of Wright County and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1935. On February 19, 1940, Carroll was united in marriage to Edith Peterson in Humboldt, sharing 64 years together. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove and lived on the farm together for 50 years. Edith preceded him in death on July 27, 2004. Carroll remained on the farm until moving to Rotary Ann Nursing Home in August of 2008. Carroll was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wright County Cattlemen and Iowa Motor Truck Association. He enjoyed his life of farming, trucking and cattle and loved to play cards, especially "Kings In The Corner" and all of his grandchildren!

Carroll passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 95 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sons, Curtis and David Spangler; brothers, Arthur Jr. and Kermit Spangler; four brothers-in-law: Birdsall Carlson, Gordon Carlson, Luther Buss, and Percy Skadburg and sister-in-law, Arlene Spangler. Survivors include six children: Ron E. Spangler and wife Linda of Eagle Grove, Carroll Spangler, Jr. and wife Shirley of Iowa Falls, Melvin D. Spangler and wife Leann of Littleton, CO, Fred A. Spangler and wife Shirley of Eagle Grove, Marion L. Cutalo and husband Richard of Little River, SC and Alvin R. Spangler of Eagle Grove; Anita Idio, widow of Curt Spangler; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Spangler and wife, Angie and Abe Spangler all of Eagle Grove; four sisters, Ina Mae Skadburg of Eagle Grove, Dorothy Buss of Mason City, Clarice Carlson of Britt, Emma Jean Bloxham and husband Francis of Clarion and several other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
