LUVERNE - Kathryn Irene (Pergande) Casey was born April 9, 1929 to Carl Edward and Catherine Elizabeth (Hinkel) Pergande in LuVerne, Iowa. She grew up in the LuVerne area. Kathryn attended parochial school at Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne and graduated from Vernon High School in 1947. She attended Tobin's Business College at Ft. Dodge, Iowa. She met and married Eugene Casey on October 8, 1949 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ft. Dodge. They loved to roller skate. Eugene and Kathryn farmed in the LuVerne area most of their lives buying a farm in 1971, two miles east and one mile south of LuVerne.

Kathryn enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling, both in Women's League and mixed doubles league. Kathryn and Eugene enjoyed square dancing in Ruffles "N" Spurs Square Dance Club in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Ladies Aide for years serving as president and vice president, on the flower committee and funeral committee. In later years she became a Cyclone fan watching basketball on TV many weekends or evenings. She also enjoyed Wheel of Fortune and working crossword puzzles in the newspaper.

Survivors include her husband Eugene of LuVerne, daughter Jean and husband Tim Wredt of Humboldt, Iowa and son Larry Casey and wife Beverly of Blue Springs, Missouri as well as five grandchildren, Pam Kacmarynski, Jennifer Simmons, Lori Strong, Andrea Brenner and Kevin Casey; eight great grandchildren, Casey Simmons, Elizabeth Simmons, Wyatt Kacmarynski, Ana Kacmarynski, John Kacmarynski, Rose Daniels, Dylan Strong and Logan Casey. Also surviving are brothers, Herman Pergande and wife Jane of Humboldt, Iowa and Elmer Pergande and wife Helen of Lebanon, Missouri. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Ernest, Lewis and John and sister Helen McClelland.

Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, LuVerne. Interment will be in LuVerne Cemetery, LuVerne. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 28 from 4 7 PM at Oakcrest Funeral Services in LuVerne.
