Dorothy Kern, 88, Fenton, died December 2, 2013 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. Services were held December 7 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fenton. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Dorothy Mae, the daughter of Arthur and Edna (Wolfgram) Mueller, was born May 29, 1925 in Fenton. She was baptized June 21, 1925 and confirmed June 5, 1938 at St. John's Lutheran. She received her education in the Fenton schools.
On September 22, 1941 Dorothy was united in marriage to Lloyd Kern in Bethany, MO. After their marriage the couple farmed near Fenton. In 1987 they moved into town. Lloyd died in April 2000. Dorothy was a member of St. John's Lutheran. She enjoyed baking, gardening and sewing. She sewed hundreds of mission quilts.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter-in-law. Left to cherish Dorothy's memory are her children Charles (Charlotte) Kern of Clarion, Dan (Irene) Kern of Arvada, CO, Rhonda (Karl) Ostrem of Story City and Jody "Joe" (Kay) Kern of Belmond; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and brother Frank Mueller of Fenton.
