"There is a time to live and a time to die. The Lord has called me home, and I have answered His call." Irene M. Wiltsie, 87, of Des Moines passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 3 at Iles Westover Chapel. Her Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 4 at First Christian Church of which she was a longtime member. Burial will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Morgan Cemetery near Dows, IA.

Irene is survived by one sister, Roberta (James) Bailey of Brookings, SD; one brother, Gordon (LaJean) Gaulke of Slater, IA; and three generations of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olive and Harry Gaulke and an infant brother, Loren.

Irene was a graduate of Iowa State University and retired from John Deere after 38 years of service. She held a special place in her heart for her church and devoted countless volunteer hours, serving on numerous committees, acting as wedding coordinator and participating in the church choir for many years.
