Funeral services for John Cade, age 63, of Shenandoah, formerly of New Market, who entered into peace Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Neb., was held 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda with Rev. Dan Wiebesiek officiating. Visitation with the family was held 1-2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25, prior to the service. Burial was in the Memory Cemetery, New Market. Memorials may be directed to Nishna Productions Valley Group Home, 304 West Valley, Shenandoah, Iowa 51601. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda.

John Bruce Cade, a son, of Dona (Foster) and Verlin O. Cade was born July 8, 1950 in the Clarinda Municipal Hospital. He passed away in the Nebraska Medical Center Nov. 20, at the age of 63.

John’s first months of life were spent fighting respiratory infections. He was taken to the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. where he was later diagnosed as having Down Syndrome. A group of parents of special needs children including John’s parents with the help of the County Superintendent was able to start a school for special needs children in Yorktown. John was happy and proud to go to school. He attended Yorktown School for 12 years. He transferred to Opportunity Village where he competed in Special Olympics and earned several medals, participated in the bell choir, worked in the greenhouse and snack bar, and later worked in a sheltered workshop at Eagle Grove.

At the time of his death he resided at the Nishna Productions Group Home in Shenandoah. He loved to do latch hook, needlework and crafts, etc. Despite physical challenges, he always kept busy. His family is just beginning to realize the impact he had on their lives.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Alta Foster and Ora and Jenny Cade and his father, Verlin Cade. Left to cherish his memory are his mother Dona Cade of Clarinda; his sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Gary Bix of Westerville, Ohio; his brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Ronda Cade of rural Clarinda; numerous nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews and many friends. Memorials are suggested to the Nishna Productions Valley Group Home, 304 West Valley, Shenandoah, Iowa.
