A memorial service for Frank Carl Ackerman, 88, will be held on Tuesday November 19, 2013 at Jolliffe Funeral Home Chapel at 10 am. Frank passed away at Golden Living Center on Friday November 15, 2013 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Jolliffe Funeral Home.

He was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa on October 29, 1925 to August C. and Lillian A. (Nelson) Ackerman. Frank attended Eagle Grove public schools and graduated on May 22, 1943. He was drafted into the United States Navy on January 2, 1944. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations until May 17, 1946. In October of 1946, he became employed with the Railway Express Agency. In March of 1951, he was recalled by the United States Navy to serve his country once more. He was honorably discharged in March of 1952. After his discharge, he returned to his job with the Express Company. Working with Express allowed Frank to see much of the United States. In September 1955, he married Shirley Jean Hambleton. To this union came two children, his eldest, son Larry, and his youngest, daughter Linda. In December 1972, Frank moved his family to Scottsbluff, Nebraska where he has resided since. After the Railway Express Company went bankrupt, Frank held several different types of jobs but he was finally able to return to his first desire: railroading. He became employed with the Burlington Northern Railroad out of Alliance, Nebraska. He remained with the railroad until his retirement in 1981. He retired as a Conductor. Frank was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was also a member of the first United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Frank is survived by his son, Larry Ackerman of Boone, Iowa and his daughter, Linda Gallegos of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, five grandchildren, and one great-grandson. His parents, two brothers, two sisters, and his loving wife, Shirley, preceded him in death.
