Martha Hartkopp, 78, of Popejoy, died on Sunday, April 7th, 2013 at the Eldora Nursing & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday April 11th at the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 10th from 5-7 p.m. at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.

Martha Darlene Hartkopp was born on September 2, 1934 to John and Violet (Hoisington) Bennett in Alden, Iowa. She graduated from Alden High School in 1953 where she was a band majorette. On May 7, 1955, Martha was united in marriage to Merle L. Hartkopp. She babysat and worked on the line production at Boyt’s. Martha was a member of the Red Hat Club and the First Lutheran Church of Dows. Martha is survived by her children; Matthew J. (Robin) Hartkopp of Iowa Falls, Marcia (Alicia Ross) Hartkopp of Teaneck, NJ, and Monte J. (Tracey) Hartkopp of Popejoy; three brothers Dean Bennett of Iowa Falls, Jerry Bennett of Alden, and Dennis Bennett of Iowa Falls; her sister Doris Henderson of Wilkinson, WV; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Merle, a son Michael L. Hartkopp, a brother Johnny Bennett and two sisters Vera Brass and Katie Smuck.
