Robert G. Thompson of Rydal, Pennsylvania died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Rydal Park. Retirement Community. He was 84 years old. Bob was born December 2, 1928, the son of the late Otho Gaylord Thompson and the late Nora Belle Thompson (nee - Basye). He is the dear friend of George E. Voegele of Rydal Park; brother of Mary Smith of Riverton, Utah; uncle of Deborah Smith, and Mark Smith and his wife Jennifer; great uncle of Daniel Smith, Matthew Smith, and Aaron Smith and his wife Morgan.
Bob was born and raised in Renwick, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict after he was inducted into the service in November of 1950, and was honorably discharged from the Army in August of 1952. Bob received a Masters degree in Sociology from Ohio State University and was employed as a social worker in the state of Delaware until his retirement. He had been a longtime resident of Wilmington, Delaware until moving into the Rydal Park Retirement Community in Pennsylvania in 2012. Services and interment will be private. Donations may be made in his memory to the Salvation Army, 701 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123.
