Helen Hofkamp, 91, Leota, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. Services were Saturday, Dec. 31, at Bethel Reformed Church in Leota. The Rev. David Vander Leest officiated. Burial was in Leota Community Cemetery at Leota.

Helen Grifhorst was born to Neil and Emma Grifhorst on May 27, 1914, at Kanawha, Iowa. The family moved to a farm near Clear Lake, S.D. She graduated from the eighth grade at Clear Lake. She married Garry Hofkamp on Feb. 21, 1935, in Orange City, Iowa. They farmed in the Leota area from the day they were married until they retired in 1979 and moved to Leota. Mr. Hofkamp died in 1994. She continued to live in Leota until she moved to Edgebrook Care Center in September 1998. Mrs. Hofkamp was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Leota. She enjoyed crocheting and making afghans and also enjoyed gardening and plants.

Survivors include three children, Vernon (Elaine) Hofkamp, Leota, Donald (Helen) Hofkamp, St. Johns, Mich., and Marcella Feuerhelm, Leota; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and four sisters, Marie Buyert, Dell Rapids, S.D., Bernice Schoep, Sioux Center, Iowa, Gertrude (Simon) Korver, Lynden, Wash., and Grace (Bert) Buyert, Watertown, S.D. Mrs. Hofkamp was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Garry. Dingmann Funeral Home, Adrian, and the Leota Burial Association were in charge of arrangements.
