He assisted his brother, Ed., in the store at Jerico for about a year and a half, when he accepted a position in a bank in 1914, in Renwick. Later he secured a position in the Humboldt State Bank. After his discharge Dec 2, 1918, he again became connected with a bank at Humboldt, Iowa.

He was married to Bessie Larson at Humboldt, Iowa, who together with a daughter, mourn the loss of a greatly devoted and most loving husband and father. His brothers and sisters are as follows: John, Edward, Peter, Grover, Sarah (wife of Martin Johnson), Martha (wife of Carl Offendahl), Anna and Hattie, all of whom are greatly bereaved as no brother was beloved more than this young man whose death came so suddenly.

Gilbert Ellestad honored his father and mother, he was a man of ability and an ambition to be somebody and the will to carry it out by making the best use of his opportunities. He was fine and wholesome. He inspired respect by his very hearing. The wife and child, and brothers and sisters have the heartfelt sympathy of everyone in this community in their great loss. The funeral took place yesterday (Tuesday) at Humboldt, Iowa.
