Erma Chantland, 96, of Fort Dodge, want to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with Rev. Matthew Martens officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until the time of service Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

Erma is survived by her daughter, Sandra (John) Musick of Harlingen, TX; grandchildren Bob (Heidi) Farrand, Kathy (Joseph) Anderson, Bill Farrand, Brant Farrand and friend Tina Oberg, Chris (Kevin) Foudray, Jason (Gina) Musick, Kelli Elsberry; 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Karen in 1974; her husband, Arthur in 1968; a sister, Virginia and a brother, Clyde; and her parents.

Erma Carroll, the daughter of Altha (Messerly) and Will Carroll, was born October 3, 1912 in Webster County. On June 10, 1938, she married Arthur Chantland. She attended Buena Vista College where she received her teaching certificate. Erma taught in the Colfax Township and in Badger Schools. Her husband died in 1968. After her husband's death, Erma worked as a waitress at the Starlite in Fort Dodge. She loved her family and friends, playing bingo and cards, traveling and taking trips with her friend JoAnn. Erma Chantland was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a former member of Badger Lutheran Church, a Foster Grandparent, the Eagles Club, 39ers in Badger, a 4-H leader, and an avid Iowa and Iowa State Fan.
