Rachel Scharf, 79, Portsmouth, Va., formerly of Fort Dodge, died April 25, 1994 at the Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Northlawn cemetery in Fort Dodge with the Rev. Arthur L. Wolz officiating. Visitation will be 7-9 Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home. Survivors include her husband, Harry W. Scharf; daughters Ramona Cook, Grand Rapids, Mich., Sally Leary, Portsmouth, Va., and Vicki Woltz, Mechanicsville, Va., eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Milton Porter, Delbert Porter and Gerald Porter, all of Fort Dodge; and sister, Dorothy Wieberg and Florence Koester, both of Fort Dodge, Opal Hudson, Eldredge, and LaVonne Pollard, Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Keith, and sisters, Helen Jones and Grace Barkhous.

Rachel Porter was born April 20, 1915 in the Fort Dodge area. She attended rural schools and graduated from Fort Dodge High School. She taught in the Webster County area and married Harry Scharf in Fort Dodge. They lived in Fort Dodge until moving to Virginia.
