MRS. J. CONKINGS SUMMONED TUES.

After Lingering Illness, Death Relieves Sufferings for Well Known Citizen

Mrs. John Conkings died at her home on South Iowa avenue at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday evening. She had been quite seriously ill for nearly a year, and for the past several months the end was anticipated. During her long illness, her children did everything possible to prolong her life and to add to her comfort during her long hours of pain. A trained nurse was in charge almost continuously and every aid given her that skillful surgeons could suggest. But the disease would not yield to treatment and the surviving children have this comfort in their sorrow; that they really exhausted every possible resource to further their mother's aid and comfort during her last months on earth.

The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church, of which the deceased was a faithful member. A complete obituary will appear next week.

EAGLE GROVE EAGLE -- Iowa

Mrs. John Conkings

Delcena Bell Wheeler was born in Fletcher, Ohio on January 27, 1863. She was the oldest of 12 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wheeler. At the age of two years she moved with her parents to New Hartford, Iowa, and three years later to Parkersburg, where she lived till the time of her marriage to John Conkings on July 1, 1880. They went to Oskaloosa to live. In 1882 they purchased a farm three miles southeast of Eagle Grove and in 1883 they took possession. They lived here for twenty-three years or till 1910, when they quit farming and traveled through the west for a year, then moved to 209 South Iowa Avenue in Eagle Grove, where they have since lived. Mr. Conkings died on January 10, 1922.

Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Conkings, only four of whom are living. They are, Mrs. Emily Wilde of Eagle Grove, Elmer L. of Crookston, Minnesota, Harrison of Long Beach, California, and Mrs. Ione Nelson of Mason City.

Mrs. Conkings has been in failing health for some time. She suffered a slight stroke in October of 1923, a second one on January 10, 1924, and the third on March 3, 1925. She finished her course on earth at 8:45 on Tuesday evening of August 11, 1925, at the age of 62 years, 6 months, and 14 days. Mrs. Conkings was a member of the Methodist church in which she was a good worker and a faithful attendant. She was also a member of the W. R. C., the King's Daughters, and the Yeoman lodge.

Those who were closely associated with her will not soon forget some of the things which she said about what Christ meant to her in these last years. So far as her entire life is concerned no words of eulogy need be spoken to those who knew her.

Aside from the members of her family already mentioned, she leaves to mourn her death, two sisters, Mrs. Leslie Sharp of Independence, and Mrs. Lesse [Lizzie] Hinman of Los Angeles, California, and two brothers, Charles Wheeler of Los Angeles, and L. B. Wheeler of Rapid City, South Dakota, and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at the Methodist church, W. G. Muhleman preaching the sermon. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
