Mary Carol Banks was born on February 6, 1918, the daughter of Hubert and Margaret O'Connor Banks at Eagle Grove, Iowa. She received her education in the Eagle Grove School system and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1937. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and returned to Wright County where she taught country school in Vincent and Dayton Townships until 1949. She was united in marriage to Kermit Fjetland of Eagle Grove on December 17, 1943 at Clarion. The couple lived in Eagle Grove since that time. Mary has lived in the Rotary Ann Nursing Home since 1985. Kermit died on April 7, 1992.

Mary Carol Fjetland died at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home on January 1, 1994. She had attained the age of 75 years, ten months and 25 days. She leaves in passing her son, William Fjetland of Algona, Iowa; two grandchildren; and a sister, Myrna (Mrs. Jerry) Hunt of Lakefield, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kermit, and three brothers, Albert, Kenneth, and Gordon.

She was a member of the O.E.S., Rebekah Lodge, White Shrine, National Federation of Business and Professional Women, and was past president and historian for the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was an active member of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as a volunteer for 10 years.

Funeral services for Mary Carol Fjetland were held on Tuesday, January 4, 1994 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. The Reverend Lyle Peters officiated at the 2 p.m. service and burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Services was in charge of arrangements.
