Kermit William Fjetland was born August 6, 1914, the son of Olaf and Mae Hilferty Fjetland at Elmore, Minnesota. He attended Elmore country schools and received his vocational training in shoe repair at Villisca Trade School located in Villisca, Iowa. He opened a shoe repair shop in Eagle Grove in 1938. He then entered the United States Army, June 13, 1942. He returned to Eagle Grove and was united in marriage to Mary Banks of Eagle Grove on December 17, 1942, at Clarion. Following his marriage, he returned overseas to complete his military service and received his honorable discharge on March 15, 1946. Upon receiving his discharge, he continued to operate his shoe repair business in Eagle Grove. He also was employed at White Industries, Webster City for a period of 10 years. After coming back to work in his shop in Eagle Grove, he also drove a school bus for many years. He retired in 1980. He was a member of the V.F.W., the Eagle Grove Senior Citizen Center, and was a strong follower of the Democratic Party.
Kermit W. Fjetland died at his home in Eagle Grove, April 7, 1992 at the age of 77 years, eight months and one day. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mabel Fjetland. He is survived by his wife; one son, William of Algona; two grandchildren; one brother, Melvin of Leland; and two sisters, Dora Smith and Mrs. Gordon (Leona) Quamme both of Rake.
Funeral services were held April 10 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with the Rev. Maynard Moen officiating at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
