SARAH OVERACKER, COUNTY PIONEER, CALLED BY DEATH

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA - Funeral services are pending at the Smiths' Mortuary for Mrs. Sarah Marie Overacker, 91, who died at 10:50 p.m, Sunday night in her home, 1208 Delaware avenue, Huntington Beach.

Mrs. Overacker was born Sarah Oliver, March 26, 1852 in LaPorte, Indiana. Her father was Thomas Oliver and her mother Deborah Martin Oliver. When she was three years old the family moved to Belmond, Iowa, where she went to school. In 1870 she moved to Carthage, Missouri, and lived for a time at Pierce City, Mo. She learned the dressmaker and milliner trade in Missouri. In 1883 she moved to Harper, Kansas, where she owned and operated a dressmaker and milliner store for a few years later going to Attica, Kansas in 1885. She married Sylvester H. Overacker on March 29, 1891 in Tulare, California. The family lived for awhile near Pixley, Calif. where her only child, a son was born. In 1897 the family moved to Orange county and located on a ranch three miles northeast of the town of Talbert. In 1911 Mrs. Overacker moved to Huntington Beach where she resided. Several years later she went to Palo Alto where her son was attending Leland Stanford University law school. She returned to Huntington Beach in 1916, living here until 1920 when she returned to the ranch northeast of Talbert. Her husband died in 1929 and she lived in Santa Ana until she moved to Huntington Beach in 1939.

She was the youngest child of a family of eight, all of whom have predeceased her. She leaves an only child, City Attorney Ray H. Overacker of Huntington Beach, three grandchildren, PFC, Clifford L. Overacker, U. S. Army; Ray H. Overacker, Jr. of Artesia; and Mrs. Gladys Stowe of Lancaster; two great grandchildren, Jimmie and Ronald Stowe of Lancaster.
