Walter P. McGinnis

Funeral services were held in the Silverwood Church on Friday, June 1st, at 2:30 p.m. for Walter P. McGinnis, who died at The Pas, MB on Tuesday, May 29th, 1962 after a long illness. He was 68 years of age. Rev. Ross Williams officiated and Sneath-Strilchuk’s Roblin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was made in the Mount View Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Messrs. Ted Sanders, Stanley Irvine, Jim Irvine, Wm. Maguire, Albert Boyce and Wm. Burnett. Active pallbearers were Messrs, J. Pound, J. Stewart, I. Beattie, L. Maguire, L. Elder and A. Gerega.

Walter P. McGinnis was born in Corwith, Iowa. He came to Canada in 1907 to the Russell District and then to the Makaroff District in 1910. He lived in the Makaroff District until he joined the armed forces during World War I. Upon his discharge from the army, he farmed in the Silverwood District until his retirement in 1945 when he moved to The Pas, MB.

He married Clemmentine Rosevear of Deepdale on May 18th, 1921 in San Clara. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Canadian Legion. Surviving him besides his wife are two sons, Lloyd of Selkirk, and Earl of Deepdale; five daughters, Mrs. Howard Radford (Noreen) of San Clara, Mrs. Don Larch (Jean) of The Pas, Mrs. David Bagshaw (Yvonne) of The Pas, Mrs. Orval Boyce (Gertrude) of Makaroff; five brothers, Sylvester and Patrick of Roblin, Lester of Miami, MB, Bernard of Winnipeg, and Phillip of Thompson; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Thomson of Miami, MB, Mrs. Al Yates of Winnipeg, MB and Mrs. E. Poupore of Windsor, ON; and twenty four grandchildren. Sneath-Strilchuk’s Roblin Funeral Home, 121-3rd Ave, Roblin, Manitoba.
