October 23, 1931 --- August 14, 2013

Olathe, KS – Paul John Elbert, 81, passed away peacefully at Olathe Medical Center on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. Born on October 23, 1931, in Whittemore, IA, he was the son of August and Clotilda (Kaschmitter) Elbert. He attended Presentation Academy in Whittemore where he played basketball and baseball in high school, graduating in 1949. Paul served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1955 aboard the U.S.S. Lofberg and the U.S.S. Hancock. Paul married Joan Kathryn Lickteig on September 3, 1960, and moved to Corwith, IA to farm in 1961. Paul and Jo then farmed in Lu Verne, IA from 1963 until retiring to Algona, IA in January, 1994. In 2009, Paul and Jo moved to Santa Marta retirement community in Olathe, KS. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved spouse of 50 years, Joan, as well as siblings Edward Elbert, Robert Elbert and Ruth Esser. Paul is survived by his three children; Ann (Robert) Bunn of Durham, NC; Rob (Debbie) Elbert of Shawnee, KS; Craig (Ann) Elbert of Overland Park, KS. Grandchildren are Christopher, Justin, and Ryan Bunn; Charlie and Rose Elbert; Hank, Claire, Mitch, and Peter Elbert. Also survived by siblings Louise Davis, Humboldt, IA; Gladys Anliker, Plain, WI; John (Trudy) Elbert, Spencer, IA. Paul was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus who enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, and ice-cream. His greatest joy was spending time with his nine grandchildren. To know him was to love him. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Algona Knights of Columbus #952, 1501 E Walnut St, Algona, IA 50511. Visitation will be 4-6pm on Sunday, August 18 at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS, with a Rosary prayed at 5:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am on Monday, August 19 at Prince of Peace, 16000 W 143rd, Olathe, KS. Arrangements: Porter Funeral Homes & Crematory, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kansas.
