Dwight A. Slining, 57, died July 28, 2013 at his home in Ames. Visitation will be Saturday, August 3 at Dugger Funeral Home in Belmond beginning at 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Following a light lunch, inurnment will take place in the family plot at the Immanuel Reformed Church Cemetery northeast of Belmond. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation so others can be spared the pain of this disease.

Dwight Alan was the second son of Duane A. and Marjorie (Pals) Slining of Belmond. He was born on September 23, 1955 in Alexander and graduated with the Dows High School Class of 1973. Dwight became diabetic at the age of nine and spent the next 48 years dealing with the disease and its side effects. In spite of those limitation, he enjoyed hunting with his father and brothers, and snowmobiling and golfing with his sons and friends. The annual Memorial Day canoe/camping trip with his friends and classmates was always a high point of the year. Dwight was united in marriage in 1973 to Conda Bruinsma of Brookings, SD. They made their home in Dows for many years.  He was predeceased by his father Duane and sister Ruth. Dwight is survived by sons Bradley, Colby (Tashina) and Dustin (Mallory) and their children Kylie, Taryn, Carter, Coyer and Avelyn, all of Sioux Falls; his mother Marjorie of Belmond; sister Margo Slining of Belmond; brother Darwin (Cathy) of Granger; brother Mark of Dows; sister Dawn of Boone; and sister Darla (Doug) Schmit of Plymouth, MN; nephews Cory, Ryan, Morgan and Conner; and nieces Stephani and Kallie.
