Carol Lee (Blankenship) Hanson was born February 17, 1944, the daughter of John and Lorna (Wright) Blankenship in Richmond, California. After living in California as a small child the family moved to Iowa where Carol attended and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School and later took secretarial training in Minneapolis. In 1963 Carol married Norman Hanson in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Carol and Norman made their home in the rural Dows area. While Norman was engaged in farming, Carol went to work for the Dows Community School while raising the couple’s four children. Carol was actively involved in her children's education and interests, especially their 4-H projects. During her 40 years of working at the Dows School she served as Board Secretary and secretary to the Superintendent. She loved working at the school, getting to know the staff, children and parents as well as keeping an eye on her own children and later, some of her grandchildren. Carol enjoyed shopping trips, especially the annual Black Friday trips with her family. She dearly enjoyed her bowling team, cooking large meals for family get-togethers, reading and gardening. After retirement she enjoyed getting together with her friends for lunch. She served on the altar guild committee at the First Lutheran Church in Dows.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Norman, daughters Chris (Jim) Ruger and their children Alyssa, Kelsey and Zane of Sheffield, Sara (Ben) Kepler and their daughter Adalyn of Ames, Lisa (Lon) Gorder and their children Jacob and Carlie of Buckingham, and son John (Kerri) Hanson and their children Brent, Ellie, and Coy of Dows.
