Raymond Harold Sheets, the son of John and Ethel (Paskin) Sheets, was born November 20, 1926, in Boone Township in Wright County, Iowa. He was raised and educated in country schools near the area of his birth. On January 3, 1948, Raymond was united in marriage with Marjorie Nelson at Sioux Falls, S.D. To this union were born two daughters, Roberta and Sharon. The family lived in Eagle Grove a short time and in 1949, they moved to a farm near Holmes. In 1956, they moved to a farm north of Goldfield for 14 years and in October of 1979, Marjorie and Raymond moved to their new home north of Goldfield that he designed and built. Marjorie died in February of 1981.

Raymond married Margery Roseland on January 4, 1983, in Aurora, CO. They continued living on the farm north of Goldfield where he never actually retired from working on the farm. He was a true "Handy Man", building items, doing mechanical work and welding - a master of all.

Raymond was a member of United Methodist Church in Goldfield where he served as a trustee. He also served on the Gold-Eagle Coop Board for many years, Oakridge Recreation Board and was a member of Farm Bureau, Izaak Walton and Trap Shooting Club. Raymond was a seed corn dealer for Hagie/Asgrow Seeds. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and attending grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's events.

Raymond passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion at the age of 86 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Virgil and Merle; sisters, Beulah Williamson, Alice Waddell and Merle's infant twin, Mae; and a son-in-law, LeRoy Hanson.

Survivors include his wife, Margery Sheets of Goldfield; five children, Roberta (Bill) Huisman of Exline, Sharon Hanson of Livermore/Adel, Julie Herrmann of Kearney, NE, Laurie (Pat) Russell of Eagle Grove and Brent (Renee) Evje of Eagle Grove; 15 grandchildren, Rob (Staci) Huisman of Ankeny, Alan Huisman of Centerville, Kinzee (Tim) Bryte of Adel, Kerianne (Kelly) Roder of Adel, Lindy (Joel) Collins of Eagle Grove, Jon (Chandra) Nelson of Cresco, Bryce (Brittney Pamperin) Russell of Eagle Grove, Nathan (Emily) Russell of Des Moines, Brandon (Heather Crees) Evje of Eagle Grove, Sarah (Mackenzie) Sisson of Eagle Grove, Stephanie Nelson of Goldfield, Kailee (Marcus Spangler) Russell of Eagle Grove, Makayla Herrmann of Kearney, NE, and Sami and Mandi Simons of Eagle Grove; 24 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madison and Delaney Huisman, Cohen and Bordan Huisman, Adam, Trey and Levi Bryte, Kole and Kasey Roder, Gracie and Kylar Severson, Ayden and Isabel Russell, Kaylynn Kepler, Keylyee, Kiyah, Abi and Mary Collins, Issac Stevenson, and Brenden, Jazon and Livia Nelson; sister, Lila Ortman of Washburn, brother, Johnny (Lois) Sheets of Webster City, sister-in-law, Bonnie Sheets of Goldfield; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at United Methodist Church in Goldfield with Pastor Karen Dearchs and Pastor Mike Agnew officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield. Foust Funeral Homes, Eagle Grove and Goldfield in charge of arrangements.
