DEATH CLAIMS F. J. DOUGHERTY PASSED AWAY EARLY TUESDAY AT HOME IN HAWARDEN
Was 81 Years Old and Resided Hawarden Many Years.— Leaves Wife and One Son

Frank J. Dougherty, retired railway man and a long time resident of Hawarden, passed away at his home in this city about 3 o'clock Tuesday morning following an illness of about five weeks. He first became ill with pneumonia but appeared to be progressing satisfactorily when heart and other complications developed which resulted in his death. His condition had been very critical for several days preceding his death. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church in this city at 9 o'clock this morning with Rev. Fr. R. Graf in charge. Interment was in Calvary cemetery.

Frank J. Dougherty was born at Fox Lake, Wisconsin, July 23, 1858, so was past 81 years of age at the time of his death. He grew up in Wisconsin, but while still a young man entered the service of the North Western Railway Company as a baggage man on the Dakota division and spent the remainder of his active years in railway service. In the earlier years of his railway service he made his home at Watertown and Redfield, S. D., and then came to Hawarden.

He was united in marriage with Miss Stella Siberz in 1893 at Zell, S. D., and they immediately
started housekeeping in Hawarden and their home has been in this city most of the time since then, although they resided for four or five years in Eagle Grove during the early 1900's when Mr. Dougherty's baggage run extended from Eagle Grove to Oakes, N. D. During most of his active railway service, however, his runs were between Hawarden and Oakes and Hawarden and Aberdeen. He became eligible for a pension in 1928 and retired from active service but he and his wife have continued to make their home in Hawarden although in recent years they have spent several winters with their son in Texas.

Mr. Dougherty was a splendid citizen and always took an active interest in local civic affairs. At one time he served as a member of the city council and always displayed a keen interest in Hawarden's welfare. He took pride in keeping his home and grounds in the neatest condition and enjoyed the companionship of his neighbors and friends.. Many years of railway service had made him a man of methodical habits and in retirement he continued a regular daily routine which kept him occupied in mind and body. He was long a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Dr. Newal J. Dougherty of San Angelo, Texas, who has been here the past ten days assisting in his care. He is also survived by one brother, James Dougherty of Beaver Dam. Wis.
