Richard Lee Peterson, the son of Clarence L. and Naomi (Shackelford) Peterson, was born on October 17, 1937, at his family home in Goldfield, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, attending school in Eagle Grove and Goldfield, graduating from Goldfield High School in 1955. In September 1956, Richard was united in marriage with Charlene Ralston. This union was blessed with two daughters and one son. After the death of Charlene, Richard was united in marriage with Judith K. Malaise on April 16, 1988, at the Goldfield United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. The couple made their home in Webster City for 10 years, where Richard worked as a master carpenter for Peterson Construction. The couple moved to Eagle Grove in 1998 and he continued to work until 2001, retiring at the age of 63 years. Richard was a member of the Goldfield United Presbyterian Church.

Richard passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Clarion, at the age of 75 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife; parents and infant grandson. Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Judith Peterson; daughters, Teresa Runyon and husband Randy of Arkansas and Tonia Roberts of Illinois; son, Timothy Peterson of Indiana; sisters, Janice Nickell and husband Lewis of Eagle Grove and Dorthy Follmann and husband Leonard of Arkansas; seven grandchildren: Nathan (Sam), Lance, Joshua and Kyle Runyon, Erick, Aaron (Tammy) and Jason Stow; six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, special cousins, Diane and Morris Peterson and special brother-in-law, Jim Ralston and his family. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
