THORNTON — Mavis E. Nannenga, age 80, of Thornton and Clear Lake, passed away Thursday June 13, 2013, at the Concord Care Cener in Garner. Funeral services for Mavis E. Nannenga will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday June 18, at the First Reformed Church in Meservey. Pastor Rodney Meester will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation for Mavis E. Nannenga will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday June 17, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Mavis Elaine, the daughter of Emil and Alida Suntken Dorenkamp, was born Dec. 7, 1932, in Pleasant Township in Wright County, Iowa. She attended rural schools for a few years before transferring to Meservey Consolidated Schools, where Mavis graduated in 1950. After high school she worked at the Northwestern Bell Telephone in Mason City. Mavis was united in marriage to Clarence M. Nannenga on Aug. 27, 1953. The couple farmed near Klemme until 1989 when son Randy started. They then farmed near Thornton until ill health forced Clarence to retire in 1993. Clarence passed away on April 5, 1995, and Mavis remained on the farm. Mavis loved living and working on the farm. In later years she took great pride in caring for the lawn, garden and flowers. Mavis loved her grandchildren greatly. They were the special delight of her life.

Mavis is survived by four children: Marjorie Tannehill and husband, Ronald of Clear Lake, Dorothy DeSloover and husband, Robert of Hampton, Linda Groesbeck and husband, Bradley of Garner, Randall and wife, Deanna of Klemme; two stepchildren: Chad and Penny; seven grandchildren: Crystal, Jason, Ashley, Amy, Ethan, Bethany and Anastasia; four great-grandchildren: Cameron, Amelia, Madelyn and Jonas; and four step-grandchildren: Jordan, Zach, Summer and Autumn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; a son, David; and a granddaughter, April. Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S., Belmond, IA
