September 2, 1892 --- April 22, 1957

Oscar J. Westre passed away very suddenly Monday morning following a heart attack. He reached the age of 64 years. Oscar was born September 2, 1892, the son of Lars and Cecelia (Lund) Westre at Thor, Iowa. He was baptized at the Ullensvang church by Rev. Farseth and confirmed by Rev. G.A. Sovde. He attended elementary school in Iowa.

In 1907, he, together with his parents, one sister and two brothers, moved to Minnesota. At that time he became a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. He continued his education by attending the Madison Normal School. He farmed together with his father until he was called to serve his country in World War I in Europe. After a few months training at Camp Dodge and Camp Peck, Arkansas, he was sent overseas with the 4th Division in the year 1918. Following service in actual battle he served in the army of occupation until his discharge August 8, 1919. Upon his return home, he continued farming with his father until 1920 when he purchased his farm where he resided until the time of his death. He unselfishly gave much of his time to community affairs being a member of the school board, town board member, and several other committees. He considered himself blessed in many ways and willingly shared with others and will be kindly remembered by a host of relatives and friends as always ready to help whenever the opportunity arose.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Eugene, who died in infancy, one sister, Charlotte, who passed away June 16, 1955. Left to mourn his passing are five brothers and sisters: Eugene and Lloyd of Minneapolis, Gladys (Mrs. Arden Jurgenson), Walter and Elise (Mrs. Orville Husby) all of Clarkfield; besides nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
