Floyd Albert Maas, the son of Hurley and Ethel (Martin) Maas, was born on October 11, 1927, in New Providence, Iowa. He graduated from Union High School in 1946. On January 16, 1949, Floyd was united in marriage with Anna Westcott at her parent's home in Union. The couple made their home and farmed in the New Providence and Union area. Floyd also worked with his father at the Standard Oil Station in Union and then returned to farming and raising cattle and hogs. In 1982, they moved to Goldfield, where he worked for Sorenson Livestock. Floyd was truly a cowboy and enjoyed everything about raising horses. He and Anna also raised Registered Welch Ponies and with the "6 Hitch" they would enter many parades around the area. They were members of the Wright County Hitch and Drive Club. Floyd was also a member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church.

Floyd passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Humboldt Care Center North, at the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Dennis Maas. Survivors include his wife, Anna Maas of Goldfield; daughter, Debra Larson and husband Larry of Lehigh; son, Dale Maas and wife Valerie of Popejoy; son, David Maas and wife Gina of Eldora and daughter, Diane George and husband Terry of Hardy; 13 grandchildren: Matthew Maas, Daniel Maas, Jeremy Maas, Zach Maas, Thomas George, Samuel George, Amanda Wallace, Ann Moenck, Claudia Larson, Lisa Maas, Courtney Hurt, Katherine George and Amber Bendlage; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Richard Maas and wife Meridean of Iowa City and sisters, Mary Cook of Union and Marcia Bourne of Dayton, OH.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 8, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield with Pastor Lynn Noel, officiating. Foust Funeral Homes, Eagle Grove and Goldfield in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
