Gerhard O. Olson was born in Humboldt County, Iowa, on August 23, 1898, to Ove and Margarethe (Lund) Olson. He was baptized at Ullensvang Church at Thor, Iowa. The family moved to the Clarkfield, Minnesota community, and thus he was confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church by Rev. O.T. Storaasli and he remained a member until his marriage on December 5, 1927, to Ruth Haakenson. Since then he was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd. He spent his life engaged in farming. He was active in church and community and served many years as deacon on the Trinity board. He was a member of the Maxwell Township board, member of the Board of Education of School District 72 in Lac qui Parle County and chairman of the Lac qui Parle County Soil Conservation District.
He passed away on Monday, June 13, 1966, at the Methodist-Worral Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, after a long illness, at the age of 67 years. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Ruth; a son, Mark of St. Paul, Minnesota; a daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Bertrand Goderstad) and son-in-law, Bertrand Goderstad, one grandchild, Todd Martin Goderstad, all of Hastings, Minnesota; one brother, Selmer, of Clarkfield; sisters: Mrs. Cecelia Hanson, Miss Agnes Olson, both of Clarkfield, Caroline (Mrs. Carl Anderson) of Sacred Heart, Minnesota, Josie (Mrs. L.E. Amdahl) of Northfield, Minnesota; foster sister, Anna Marie Bickhart of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ove Olson; one brother, Carl and one sister, Alice.
