February 6, 1886 --- May 13, 1959

Joseph Lund was born February 6, 1886, at Thor, Iowa, Humboldt County, the son of Samson J. and Hannah (Corsland) [sic Korslund] Lund. He was confirmed in the Ulluswang [sic Ullensvang] Church at Thor, December 9, 1900, by Rev. G. Greggussen. In March 1901, he came to Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, with his parents who settled on a farm in Tyro Township where he worked until 1912 when he was employed by the Peter Anderson Implement Company.

Seven years later, he went into partnership with George Olson and they built a garage in 1919 (the building now occupied by Roxy Theatre, Roxy Lunches and Hanson Garage). After the death of Mr. Olson in 1930, he managed the business alone for about three years. Then Kenneth Hanson purchased half interest in the business which continued until June, 1957, when Mr. Lund's ill health necessitated dissolving the partnership.

On December 27, 1922, Mr. Lund was united in marriage to Agnes Jolstad of Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County. To this union two children were born, namely, Shirley (Mrs. Forrest Bacus) of Prescott, Arizona, and Samuel of Minneapolis.

Joe was a member of the Clarkfield Fire Department during the twenties. He was interested in civic affairs and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church since 1901 and, together with his wife and children, worshipped in that church.

Mr. Lund passed away Wednesday morning, May 13, 1959, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital after a lingering illness, at the age of 73 years. He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife, Agnes; his children, Shirley and Forrest Bacus, Samuel and Geraldine Lund; one granddaughter, Katherine Bacus; four brothers: Clarence and Hendrick of Clarkfield, Peter of Wausau, Wisconsin, and Wilhelm of St. Peter, Minnesota; three sisters: Julia (Mrs. Willis Johnson) of Chester, Iowa, Mrs. Sarah Haaland and Oleanna (Mrs. Oscar Miller) of Clarkfield. His parents, two brothers, George A. and Edwin, and one sister, Oleva (Mrs. Otis Payne), preceded him in death.
