Brownsville, Texas — Marna "Peggy" Ruth (Neuberger) Herman, age 71, of Brownsville, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at her home after nearly 11 years of battling cancer.

Marna was born to William and Emma Neuburger on June 21, 1941, in Cerro Gordo County near Klemme, Iowa. As a child, she accepted Jesus as her Savior, graduated from Ventura High school in 1959 and united in marriage to Elwyn L. Herman on August 28, 1960. In this union three children were born; Carol, Michael and Deborah.

Marna started working for the Brownsville Herald for one year, later becoming an Avon Sales representative, a substitute teacher and eventually a bookkeeper for her husband's business. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Jaycees, Women's Christian Group and enjoyed playing Bunco once a month with her friends.

She showed love and devotion to her husband and children by taking an active role throughout their lives. he attended various school activities, volunteered as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader and was always available to listen. as a daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, we knew we could depend on her in times of need and support. She was a person of generosity, integrity and strong-will.

She was preceded in death by her parents; William and Emma; in-laws, Glen and Maurine Herman; a son, Michael; a sister Marlys Luscombe; three brother-in-laws Arnold Miller, Paul Jurgens, and Guy Luscombe; and two nephews David Neuberger and Therron Miller. Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Elwyn; daughter, Carol (Larry) Stephens of Lockhart, Texas; grandsons Tyler and Colby Hearn both of Texas. grandson, Matthew Herman (Michael's son) of Texas; daughter Deborah (Todd) Schippers and grandchildren Rebecca, Trent, and Elaine of Monroe, Iowa. Two brothers, William "Bill" (Madonna) Neuberger of Klemme, Iowa, and David (Judy) Neuberger of Garner, Iowa; and four sisters Marie Jurgens of Latimer, Iowa; Margaret Parrett of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Marilyn Cox of West Des Moines, Iowa; Marcia (Mike) Evans of Thompson, Iowa, and sister-in-law Mary (Robert) Jackson of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

A church service will be held Sunday, May 19, at the United Methodist Church in Klemme, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held today, Saturday, May 18, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home, 528 East Main St., Klemme, and continues from 1 until 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Andrews Funeral Home.
