Carol Ann (Helvick) Mammen

Carol Ann (Helvick) Mammen, age 73, of Goldfield, Iowa (formerly of Clatonia, Neb.,) Passed away at her home on 5/11/13. She was born to Merton and Kathryn (Smith) Helvick on Sept 22, 1939, in Humboldt, Iowa. Carol had many adventures throughout her life working as a Dietician, a Butcher, a Baker, a Grocer, and her most favorite as a homemaker raising her 4 children, Timothy, James, Teresa and Kelley. She married Richard Mammen on Sept 21, 1957, in Estherville Iowa. During their marriage, they enjoyed living in several different states, which included Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska.

She is survived by her son James of Colorado, daughter and son-in-law Kelley and Jerry Weber of Beatrice, Neb.; son-in-law Scott Weber of Lincoln, Neb.; sister, Pam Arola (Howard) of Dassel, Minn.; brother Paul (Sue) Helvick of Davis, Calif.; stepmother, Lorraine Helvick of Galesburg, Ill.; stepbrothers Mark (Georgia) of St. Paul, Minn., Gary (Cathy) of Galesburg, Ill., and Alan (Cindy) of Alexandria, Ill.; sisters-in-law Tammy Helvick of Ankeny Iowa, and Rodna of Kansas City, Nancy (Paul) Kroenke of Graettinger Iowa, Dorothy Helmick of Estherville; brother-in-law Bill Mammen of Wallingford, Iowa; grandchildren Shauntae (Ahren) Ambrose of Beatrice, Neb., Jacob Mammen (Kara Andersen) of Lincoln, Neb., Carrie, Jonathan and Jonas Weber of Beatrice NE, Travis Weber, Kaysha (Travis) Brady, all of Lincoln, Neb., Josh Weber of Colorado Springs, Sam Mammen of Colorado, Jasmine Withers of Spencer Iowa; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are special friends and adopted family, Courtney Askvig and Harlee, Cheryl and Rick Nelsen, Judy Reeder and Dave Govern, Harold Yawn, Justin Askvig and family, Jerrit Askvig and family, Tim and Miros Hart, Amy Lund and family and Lyle and Marie Christensen. Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget. Carol had so many close friends that were like family to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Merton Helvick and Kathryn Helvick; parents-in-law Amos and Margaret Mammen; husband Richard; son Timothy; daughter Teresa; granddaughters Brienna and Grace; sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Joseph Jensen; infant sister Wanda; brothers Earl and Don Helvick; brothers-in-law Robert and Kenneth Mammen.

Cremation has already taken place. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at the Methodist Church in Goldfield, Iowa, with Pastor Christina Perkins officiating. Graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to one of Carol”s two favorite charities: St. Judes Children’s Hospital or Boys Town of Omaha.
