Jack Auer Newton, 74 of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Jack and his family.

Jack Newton was born on July 24, 1938, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Lester A and Genevieve Lenning Newton. On October 12, 1957 Jack was united in marriage to Merry Clagett in Iowa City. They resided in the Dakota City area before calling Marshalltown home in 1965. Jack started his career with a CPA firm in Dakota City, Deputy County Recorder for Humboldt County, General Manager for the Bryngelson Corporation and Field Auditor for Job Services of Iowa where he retired from in 1995. Jack's memberships and interests were plenty as he was a member of the Masonic Lodges and received the Kych award that was given for being elected to all the bodies of the Masonic Lodge, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, NRA, Sheriff's Reserve and the Iowa Jaycees. He was also very dedicated to the Republican Party. In his free time; Jack was an avid hunter and belonged to a group of hunters known as the Iowa River Bottom Deer Hunters Association and enjoyed playing golf, fish, travel and loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Merry Jean; children: Jacqueline (Doug) Wilkening of Marshalltown; Heidi (Jimmie) Simmons of Hortonville, Wisconsin; Grayson (Trina) Newton of Nampa, Idaho; Jon (Marlynn) Fitzgerald-Newton of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and Merry Warnell of Ottumwa. Fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Brothers: Lester (Sharon) Newton of Oelwein and Mark (Kristi) Newton of Dakota City. Sister: Rosemary White of Rolfe. Sister-in-law: Mary K. Newton of Indianapolis, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack is preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother Roger Newton.
