Lois J. Schroeder, age 92, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Crest Healthcare in Davenport. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha, Iowa. Weerts Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Burial will be in Kanawha Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Ridgecrest Foundation Nursing Scholarship, Asbury Methodist Church in Bettendorf, or the Kanawha United Methodist Church.

Lois was born on October 10, 1920 on the family farm near Kanawha, Iowa to Samuel and Nettie (Clark) Barber. She attended rural schools through 8th grade and then attended and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1937. She graduated from Iowa State College in Ames in 1942 where she studied home economics. Lois taught home economics for a year in Lake View, Iowa. On March 21, 1943, Lois was united in marriage to Clarence (Buck) Alden Schroeder at her parents' family farm in Kanawha. Buck preceded her in death in November of 1982. Lois and Buck resided in Washington D.C. from 1943 to 1950, and then moved to Prince Georges County Maryland until 1971. During their time out east, Lois taught 3rd grade for 4 years and then substitute taught all grades for 16 years. They returned to the Kanawha area in 1971, until Lois moved to the Quad Cities in 1997. Lois spent a few years in Colorado near her son and his family, and then moved back to Ridgecrest Village in 2008. Over her lifetime, Lois held various offices in the Methodist Church, as well as being involved with music and other leadership roles. She was a member of the Kanawha City Council and Mayor pro-tem from 1974 to 1986. She was also a trustee of the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt from 1983 to 1995. Lois loved her family, traveling, reading, genealogy, needlework, and socializing.

Survivors include her children, Barbara (George) Robinson of Blue Grass, IA; Richard (Jill) Schroeder of Grand Junction, CO; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Natasha (Keith Alcock) Warner and Ethan of Tucson, AZ, Nathan (Erika) Warner and Caitlin and Christopher of Brighton, MI, Lynda (Mark) Sutrina and Jessica, Erika, Rebecca, and Benjamin of Fruita, CO, and Brett (Trish) Bobbitt, Cassidy and Chandler of Fruita, CO. In addition to her husband, Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, John, Harold, and Earl Barber.
