Margaret Anna Griebel, Nee Rohwer, was born in Schleswig-Holstein, a province of Germany, on October 13, 1859. She came to America at the age of seven and resided in Scott County, Iowa, until the year of her marriage. During the early years of her sojourn in this country she received her education in the public schools. On March 9, 1882, she joined hands in marriage with Mr. Reinhold Julius Griebel. The marriage was solemnized at Donahue, Iowa. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Griebel moved to Renwick at that time a very young village. Here they both resided and grew along with the town until the time of their demise.

To this marital union were born three children, two daughters and one son, of which two remain to mourn their Mother's passing. Mrs. Elsie Bogard of Renwick and Mr. Ernest Griebel of Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Griebel were charter members of St. Paul's Lutheran of Renwick. The congregation was organized in 1888. Mrs. Griebel was also a member of the St. Paul's Ladies Aid. Mrs. Griebel's husband passed away July 29, 1931, and one daughter, Mrs. Alvine Niemier preceded her mother in death Oct. 12, 1922. Mrs. Griebel enjoyed fair health until these last two years, when old age more and more made its influence felt. It was due to her age and the infirmities accompanying the same that Mrs. Griebel at length departed this life on Sun. afternoon, November 21, 1948 at the home of her grandson in Ft. Dodge.

Thus another life has reached the grave in full years, as a sheaf of corn coming in its season. Mr.s Griebel attained the age of 89 years, 1 month and 8 days. There remain to mourn her loss her children, Mrs. Elsie Bogard of Renwick and Mr. Ernest Griebel of Des Moines, also 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and many acquaintances and friends.

May she rest in peace!

The funeral services were conducted Wed., Nov. 24, 1948 from the Wm. Beenen Funeral Home and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Renwick, Iowa. The Rev. Paul C. Lutz officiated. Miss Marilyn Paine sang suitable anthems accompanied by Miss Mardelle Larson. Internment was made at Vernon Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Mr. A. H. Krause, Mr. Henry Kraft, Mr. Claus Block, Mr. Wm. Pogge, Mr. Wm. Helmke and Mr. Fred Kraft. Memorials were established in honor of the deceased for the following causes: Lutheran World Action, Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Welfare Society of Ft. Dodge, Lutheran Children's Home, Waverly, Ia., Missions, St. Paul's Lutheran Sunday School, Renwick and St. Paul's Lutheran Memorial Fund, Renwick.
