ED ACKERMAN WAS 16-YEAR RESIDENT

Edwin A. (Ed) Ackerman, a resident of Wickenburg for more than 16 years, died in Community Hospital here May 22 following an extended illness. Private services were held Thursday evening and burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery.

Mr. Ackerman was born February 19, 1899, in Alden, Iowa. For 30 years prior to 1952 he and Mrs Ackerman owned and operated Ackerman's, Inc., of Popejoy, Iowa, a firm dealing in lumber, hardware, feed, grain and other merchandise and services for an agricultural community. He served as mayor of Popejoy for two years during World War II. In 1957 the Ackermans sold the business to a group of the firm's employees, retired, and moved to Wickenburg. In 1952 Mr Ackerman had a stroke which thereafter curtailed his activities except for horseback riding which he did weekly. Soon after moving here they built the home in Vista del Rio Estates which they occupied until building a new home on Howard Court with the past year. Surviving in addition to his wife, Veda, are two sisters: Mrs Marie Elliott of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs Earl Drottz of Iowa Falls, Iowa.
