William "Bill" Sawyer, 82, of Lenox died Feb. 6, 2013. Memorial services were 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox.The Rev. Tim Maxa officiated. Private family inurnment was in North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Ritchie Funeral Home, 124 S. Main St., Lenox, was in charge of cremation. Memorials may be directed to Lenox United Presbyterian Church or Greater Regional Hospice.

William "Bill" Sawyer, son of Vivian (Scott) and M. K. Sawyer, was born Oct. 17, 1930, in Ames. Bill graduated from Bedford High School in 1948 and married Ann Norton in Hopkins, Mo., on May 27, 1951. Bill worked in the retail grocery business in Bedford, Story City and Dows, before purchasing and operating Lenox Super Valu Store. After 11 years at Lenox Super Valu, he was employed as a meat inspector for the state of Iowa. Bill was a member of a quartet, while living in Dows, and Lenox and Yuma, Ariz., church choirs. Bill was a member of Lenox Rotary Club, Masons, Shriners and Lenox United Presbyterian Church.

Bill is survived by his wife Ann; son Steve (wife Connie); daughter Jill Sawyer; daughter-in-law Erena Sawyer-Wagner; grandchildren Tyson Sawyer (fiancee Kathryn Polking), Alison (husband Josh) Munter, Tara (husband Adam) Suter and Devon and Paxton Sawyer; great-grandchildren, Laney and Brodey Suter and Max and Cate Munter; sister Sondra (husband Lowell) Parman; and brothers, John (wife Georgalee) Sawyer, Bob (wife Katherine) Sawyer and Tom (wife Claire) Sawyer. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son Scott; grandson Brad; brother Charles; and sisters, Elise Tranbarger and Kay Dinsmoor.
