OTTUMWA — Margaret Day, 95, of #2 Pennsylvania Place, formerly of 316 N. Johnson, died at 11:40 a.m. April 24, 2013 at Hospice House in Ottumwa. She was born in Redfield, Iowa on Jan. 3, 1918 to Herman D. and Ethel Parker Maxson. She graduated from Redfield High School in 1935 and from Simpson College in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in music. She taught music in Pleasantville and Eagle Grove before marrying Roscoe Day on Oct. 6, 1945 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2004. Margaret was a resident of Ottumwa since 1947 and taught music in the Ottumwa public schools and worked for many years at Sorden Music. She was a member of Willard St. United Methodist Church and a long-time choir member. She was also involved with United Methodist Women, she was a charter member of the American Association of University Women, a board member of the Ottumwa Civic Music Association and a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Margaret could always be found sewing a quilt or crocheting an afghan for her children and grandchildren, singing in the choir, going out to breakfast with "the girls" or helping at her church. She will be greatly missed and was blessed with a long and full life.

Surviving is her daughter, Sue (Mike) Wallace of St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren, Jordan (Sarah) Scales of Cedar Falls, Halsey Scales of Ottumwa and Mikaela Wallace of St. Louis, Mo.; a step-grandson, Joshua Wallace of Dubuque; two great-grandchildren, Rayleigh Scales and Ryett Callas, both of Ottumwa; a brother, Leon Maxson of Stuart. She was preceded in death by her son, James Day; a grandson, Derek Scales; a sister, Charlene Botsford.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to Willard St. United Methodist Church or Hospice serving Wapello and Davis counties, 927 Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
